【Brief Overview】
All GSM students of the GSM programs are required to accumulate 10 points that they can get at individual “point seminars” that the school periodically offers. At the same time, an extraordinary circumstance this year has prevented the school from providing such opportunities to students. The Mizuho Securities Endowment comes to the rescue by sponsoring the following presentations.

The seminar on June 19 is a continuation of the presentation by Prof. Takashi Hikino on June 14, and the presenter is Program-Specific Assistant Professor Chiaki Ito of GSM. He will present in English the contents of a draft of his paper written in Japanese.

Engaging with an entrepreneur and his partners: Thick description using the second-person approach to trace the history of entrepreneurial reflection
By Chiaki Ito (Program-Specific Assistant Professor, Graduate School of Management, Kyoto University)

This study aims to identify the process of engagement between an entrepreneur and a managing partner by focusing on the history of entrepreneurial reflection. For this purpose, this paper traces the history of reflection through a case study with a second-person approach and describes the process of engagement between an entrepreneur and a managing partner thickly. The three findings of the case study are as follows. First, the managing partner’s anticipation of failure and the entrepreneur’s response contrasted before and after the business failure. Second, the relationship generation pattern between the entrepreneur and the managing partner contrasts before and after its failure. Third, entrepreneurs’ meanings of business failure contrasted at two points when relatively little time had passed since the closing of the business or bankruptcy. Based on these findings and discussions, we present a 3+1-stage model of the process of engagement between an entrepreneur and a managing partner.
