From June 30 to July 4, 2025, Graduate School of Management (GSM), Center for Southeast Asian Studies(CSEAS), XBRL, and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) jointly hosted the above event. The overall theme was “Contemplating Sustainability through the Lens of Millennium-old Capital. About 150 central bankers and financial officials from Asian countries gathered at the HORIBA Symposium Hall for five days of lively discussions.
The first day, titled “Kyoto University Sessions on Building a Sustainable society,” started with opening remarks by Norio SAWABE, Dean of GSM followed by a keynote speech by Professor Haruhiko KURODA, GSM Distinguished Professor, former Governor of the Bank of Japan, and former President of the Asian Development Bank.
After that, there were sessions featuring Prof. Takashi SEKIYAMA from Graduate School of Advanced Integrated Studies in Human Survivability on “Geopolitical Reality and Sustainability” and by Prof. Fumiharu MIENO, Director of CSEAS, titled “ASEAN’s Financial Structure: What Has Changed? What Has Not Changed?” Following these sessions, presentations were made by Kyoto University Innovation Capital (Kyoto iCAP) and six start-up companies from Kyoto University.
Participants shared their feedback, stating, “although I had attended many presentations by startups in the past, this was the first time I had found them all so interesting”, and ”Their outstanding insight into technology, the ambition to use it to solve social issues, and presentation skills were all excellent.”
