1. As a student only has been studied in Asia, I wanted to explore the life and education system in Europe, as well as making some more friends with people from other countries.
2. Since TUM is strong in its technology related courses, I wanted to expand my knowledge on data analysis and coding

Sample of courses you took

I mainly took courses related to data analysis and coding, including Introduction to R for Data Science, Introduction to Statistics Using R, and Foundation of Web 3.

Tell us about the classes and research during your study abroad.

Lectures and seminars are very different. Lectures usually have a lot of students to take, with about 100+ for each class, and the professors will never take attendance and barely give personal guidance during the class. All lectures are about basic knowledges and study alone. But seminars are more engagement required, since there will only be about 20-30 students in each class so we got more chance to communicate with professors and practice. It is a pity that I applied for 3 seminars but only had one being selected.

Tell us about the school’s environment (Facilities, faculty and staff members, students, etc.).

TUM has 3 different campuses and the main campus is in the center of Munich city, where School of Management is. The facilities in this campus are not that advanced compared with other 2 campus, but is very European style. The faculty and staff members are warm and responsible, as well as the students.

Did you participate in any activities besides lectures and research?

Yes, TUM student unions and tutor programs offered a lot of activities like one-day travel/hiking/beer experience during the semester. I have been to several of them.

Reflect your study abroad and tell us about your thoughts.

This studying abroad period was very different from my expectations and I felt a bit difficult to get used to the life there at the very beginning, but the staff and students I met in TUM helped me a lot and they were really trying to let our exchange students enjoy the life there. I made some friends and went traveling with them when I had time. The course design in TUM is great and I got to learn some knowledge I was lack of. Besides, it was also a great time to experience the life in Europe and it enriched my global vision and let me learn some more western cultures.

What kind of impact or changes has your experience of studying abroad given you? (Finding a job, future vision, point of view, etc.)

For one thing, I think it helps me become a more independent person. Second, getting to explore Europe and traveling around different countries widens my global view and helps me build a bridge between me and people from other countries.

Please give some advice and message to the prospective students who are thinking of studying abroad.

I would recommend everyone to try to study abroad, especially to go to a country that has very different living habits and environment compared with our home country. And during that period, taking personal safety as the most important thing, then all you need to do is just to experience and challenge new things.
