The Reason Why You Chose GSM
Driven by a desire to explore the world more and expand my own possibilities, I decided to study abroad in Japan. Particularly at GSM, there is a variety of subject choices and curriculum settings available, allowing not only for the acquisition of practical knowledge but also for the study of highly specialized theoretical subjects to a certain extent. Moreover, the student body includes professionals from various industries, students from different cultures, and individuals like myself who have proceeded directly from undergraduate studies, creating a richly diverse learning environment. The clash of different perspectives is something I find extremely intriguing. I believe this will lead to not just academic fulfillment but also significant expansion in personal relationships and international perspective.
What You Learned at GSM
My first year began with courses on fundamental subjects related to business administration and economics. Many of the courses were conducted in a group work format, offering ample opportunities for interaction and discussion with classmates. Through this year's learning, I not only constructed theoretical frameworks but also formed a basic understanding of the Japanese market through the analysis and discussion of case studies. The second year, revolved around workshops, allowing me to pursue research on topics of my interest. Professor Liu's passion for academia was infectious, and brainstorming with classmates and teachers during the workshops deeply conveyed the allure of academic research.
The Reason Why You Chose Your Career Plan
My aspiration is to support individuals who are minorities and in vulnerable positions within society. From my experiences abroad and traveling, I have witnessed firsthand the unequal distribution of medical resources across the globe. This conviction only strengthened after studying in Europe for six months through GSM's exchange program. I believe that by working in the healthcare sector, I can help those who struggle the most with survival. Utilizing the knowledge acquired at GSM, I aim to solve managerial challenges faced by healthcare and pharmaceutical companies, enabling these organizations to deliver better services and products, thereby benefiting more people worldwide.
What Impressed You About GSM
What particularly struck me was the workshop in my second year, especially during the latter half of M2 when I was writing my paper while also experiencing an exchange program in Germany. During this period, I had to juggle classes at the exchange university, writing my paper, and job-hunting, which was extremely exhausting due to the busy schedule and jet lag. However, Professor Liu provided not only insightful advice on the academic challenges I faced but also warm encouragement and guidance on life challenges and decision-making, much like a friend would. In the end, my research on a topic of personal interest won an excellence award within the program, and I also secured a job offer from the company I desired. These achievements greatly boosted my confidence and gave me the courage to overcome my fear of challenges.
Extracurricular Activities You Have Done
There are mainly three things I'd like to share.
Firstly, during my time at Kyoto University, I climbed a lot of mountains around Kyoto, Shiga, Osaka, and Kobe. I walked from Kobe to Osaka via the Rokko Mountain range and climbed to the summit of Mount Fuji during the summer vacation of my first year, to watch the sunrise. This led me to expand my hobbies and start indoor climbing (bouldering).
Secondly, during my exchange in Germany, I visited over 30 cities in 14 countries. Experiencing the different personalities and ways of thinking of people in various parts of Europe, I realized there are diverse ways of living. This experience greatly broadened my perspective.
Lastly, I flew to Boston for an interview and received an offer from my top-choice company. My job search was not that smooth. Especially while in Germany, I often stayed up late for information sessions and interviews, and before heading to America, I doubted my decisions and feared failure. However, the final outcome showed me that all the effort I put in was indeed worthwhile.
