Nov 2, 2023, Prof. Jin-ichiro Yamada Delivers Keynote Address at The 19th International Conference

On November 2, 2023, Professor Jin-ichiro Yamada of Kyoto University had the honor of delivering the opening keynote speech at the 19th International Conference on Knowledge-Based Economy & Global Management in Taiwan. The event took place at the International Conference Hall of Nantai University of Science and Technology in Tainan City, Taiwan.

Prof. Yamada’s keynote address, titled “Rediscovering University Ethos Amidst Academic Capitalism: Unveiling the Complexities of Regional Innovation Policies and Entrepreneurship,” captivated an audience of over 200 participants from more than 15 countries worldwide. The opening session included engaging Q&A sessions that prompted discussions among graduate students and researchers representing Europe, the United States, and Southeast Asia.

In his presentation, Prof. Yamada explored the historical characteristics of urban cultures and entrepreneurship ecosystems, making comparisons between cities such as Sapporo and Kyoto in Japan. He examined the intricate dynamics surrounding the transfer and achievement of science and technology, looking into policy interventions, stimulus packages from academic capitalist central and regional governments, human capital investments, and relationships with local economic communities.

Prof. Yamada’s theoretical frameworks were grounded in extensive empirical research and longitudinal case studies, shedding light on the complexities of these issues. Attendees actively engaged in comparative discussions, raising questions about cases in various parts of Taiwan, as well as in Germany, France, and Southeast Asian cities.

The discussions during this international academic event addressed crucial aspects of academic capitalism and the knowledge economy, offering an opportunity for research institutions worldwide to contemplate entrepreneurship and local economies within the context of a global era marked by geopolitical instability. It is expected that this event will promote increased research collaboration and exchange among relevant institutions.
